The Kansas Board of Regents announced Dr. Andy Tompkins as the new Interim President of Fort Hays State University at Wednesday’s meeting.
“There is no one in the State of Kansas who has more experience as a leader in education, or who is more qualified to assist in this capacity,” Zoe Newton, a member of KBOR said.
This comes following the untimely resignation of president Mirta Martin on November 23rd, 2016.
Martin announced that she resigned for personal reasons.
“I am stepping down for personal reasons from the position of President at Fort Hays State University,” Martin said in a listserv email sent to FHSU students.
Dr. Andy Tompkins was on the KBOR and retired in June of 2015. He also served as the Dean of College of Education at Pittsburgh State University from 2007-2010.
VP of Finance Mike Barnett has stepped in as standing president up until this point.
“All of us at FHSU will continue to follow our mission to support each and every student,” Barnett said, “We are proud of your hard work and accomplishments both in and out of the classroom.”
The following statement was issued from the KBOR website.
